Here’s a fantastic site about the Roman Empire. What initially caught my eye about this site was the book reviews page that I just stumbled upon at Stumbleupon.com. About the book reviews: if you are into reading nonfiction about history, ancient history, the Roman Empire, this feature of the site is for you. However, I suspect that if you love reading nonfiction with history as the main subject matter, then you are probably a history junkie. A cornucopia of of information about every aspect of ancient Rome, UNRV History – Roman Empire should satisfy your lust for historical knowledge. Learn about ancient Rome’s government, military, culture, economy, and visit the Forums board to discuss these topics and more.
Site Design: The site’s layout in general is well designed: the color scheme is pleasing to view, eye-catching, and the text easy to read. You want to stick around and surf. While I did not find the navigational links entirely intuitive, I found it worth the effort to figure out the setup. And it didn’t really take that long to do so. But here’s a little guidance for anyone who investigates UNRV History – Roman Empire: The About page takes you to the introduction page. This page also lists the main links of the site. The Home page takes you straight to the book reviews. So if you are all about the books and nothing but the books, hang out here.
In addition to the forums board, there is also a blogs link. This link will take you to a listing of people’s personal blogs. The content for the blogs is not strictly related to all things Roman or historical, but the common thread uniting these bloggers is their interest on history and Roman history in particular (while the forums link contains topics that are strictly about history.) If you read the profiles, Roman history is always listed as a main interest. Many profiles are interesting: Some bloggers participate in historical re-enactments, etc.
So there’s a lot of good information at this site and many ways to lose hours of your life exploring ancient Rome. The site is updated frequently so there seems to be something new to explore on a regular basis.
Enjoy!
